Davis and Beyer High Schools may get new athletic stadium in $245M Modesto City Schools revamp
At a special meeting of the Modesto City Schools board Monday, associate superintendent Tim Zearley announced through bond Measure L, the district is considering constructing an athletic stadium for Davis High School and creating space for a potential new athletic stadium at Beyer High School.
“We’re going to design it for where that could be in the future if that’s ever a priority in the district,” Zearley said to the school board.
Currently, the district has budgeted $245 million for facility improvements in its high schools, with $198 million of that funded through the bond measure.
The district also will consider building on-campus baseball, softball and tennis courts for Downey and Beyer students so they won’t have to use city-owned courts. The district might build a fitness center for Downey, too. In addition, the district is considering building a theater, new pool, a fitness center and on-campus baseball and softball complexes for Davis High.
All of these are “wish list” items on the Davis, Downey and Beyer master plans. At this time, it is undetermined what will be approved by the board.
Johansen, Enochs and Gregori have yet to begin their master plan. Downey and Beyer are in progress while the plan for Davis is complete.
Science classrooms and labs are also being considered for renovations. The district announced they have assigned an architect and have some input from the science departments at Downey and Beyer High Schools.
