The Yosemite Community College District wants community members to join its search and selection committee as it continues to look for a new Modesto Junior College president.

Chancellor Henry Yong is looking for two public members to serve. The district asks applicants to submit a brief letter of interest to his office by Monday, Sept. 18.

MJC has not had a permanent president since Santanu Bandyopadhyay was fired in December after 18 months in the position. MJC professor Chad Redwing is serving as interim president.

In the spring, Yong announced the search for a new MJC president had been extended into the fall after the selection committee felt none of the three finalists were right for the position. He said the decision to reopen the recruitment process was made by consulting the Board of Trustees and the 13-member committee, which is made up of faculty, staff and community members.

Since its opening in 1921, MJC has had 30 presidents, with an average tenure of 2.8 years, according to the Community College League of California.

Letters of interested can be sent to chancelloryong@yosemite.edu or mailed to the Yosemite Community College District Office of the Chancellor, P.O. Box 4065, Modesto CA 95352.

Letters may be hand delivered to the chancellor’s office on the MJC West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.
