Modesto High principal remains on paid leave 2 months after allegations of impropriety
Modesto High School Principal Jason Manning remains on paid administrative leave nearly two months after The Bee reported that he and a certificated employee were under investigation for alleged inappropriate conduct on campus.
“Because the investigation process (findings) has not been completed, the district has not taken any personnel action and has not issued a communication to the school community,” said Modesto City Schools spokeswoman Linda Mumma Solorio on Tuesday.
The district launched an investigation Nov. 29 after learning about allegations of inappropriate conduct between Manning and an unidentified employee, Solorio told the Bee. The district said the other employee is certificated, meaning the person has a teaching credential.
Two days later, the district placed both Manning and the certificated employee on paid leave. Assistant Principal Phuc Pham-Goulart has served as “administrator-in-charge” in Manning’s absence.
Manning has been principal since 2009, according to Bee archives. He had previously served as the school’s associate principal of curriculum and instruction.
Mumma Solorio said the district expects to complete the investigation in “the next several weeks.”
According to the district’s salary schedule, Manning earns between $154,836 and $173,612 a year, depending on his experience. He has been paid over $20,000 since the district placed him on administrative leave on Dec. 1, according to the district. The district did not disclose how much the other employee makes.
