Sylvan Union School District searches for new superintendent, asks for community input
Sylvan Union School District is seeking input on its search for a new superintendent.
The north Modesto district’s current leader, Eric Fredrickson, will retire in June, according to executive assistant Velma Silva. Fredrickson has led the district’s 10 elementary and three middle schools since July 2020.
The school board plans to select Fredrickson’s successor in March, according to a timeline posted to the district’s website, www.sylvan.k12.ca.us. The new superintendent is slated to begin in July.
Students, staff, parents and other community members may participate in an anonymous online survey now through 4 p.m. Feb. 18. The survey is available in English and Spanish. The survey asks people what they view as the district’s strengths and what qualities they think are important for the next superintendent to have, among other questions.
An executive search and leadership firm called Leadership Associates is helping the school board “conduct a rigorous, nationwide search,” according to the district’s website.
The deadline for applicants is Feb. 17, according to a timeline the district posted.
