Stan State, MJC, county Office of Education form partnership

Key players in Stanislaus County education will join forces under the umbrella Stanislaus Education Partnership. Leaders will speak about the project Thursday at the Modesto branch of the Stanislaus County Library.

The organization will bring together an educational pipeline, beginning with the Stanislaus County Office of Education, leading a countywide effort to raise high school graduation rates; Modesto Junior College, where many area high school graduates start; and California State University, Stanislaus, which receives many MJC transfer students.

The partnership’s goals are to increase college enrollment and graduation rates in the region, reduce the time it takes to get degrees and close the achievement gap for underrepresented students.

Stanislaus State President Joseph F. Sheley, Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools Tom Changnon and MJC President Jill Stearns will jointly announce the partnership’s formation at Thursday’s event. Also speaking will be Marian Kaanon from the Stanislaus Community Foundation and David White with the Stanislaus Business Alliance.

The announcement will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the McHenry Room of the Modesto branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 1500 I St. It will coincide with the twice-weekly farmers market that closes 15th Street next to the library. Parking is free, but may be difficult to find.
