Stanislaus schools Superintendent Kuykendall to join Rep. Harder in telephone town hall

For a telephone town hall meeting Monday, U.S. Rep. Josh Harder will be joined by Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools Scott Kuykendall, who will give an update on distance learning and what it will take to reopen schools for in-person teaching.

The superintendent said he’s been asked to offer a roughly five-minute overview of the state of schools in the county. He said he anticipates quite a few questions on what schools are doing to ensure distance learning is better than what ended the last school year.

He also expects a lot of interest on how schools will look when given the green light to reopen, “perhaps some of the different protocols that will be placed on school campuses to ensure student and staff safety.”

Kuykendall wants to address why the decisions that have been made up to this point have been made, he said. He hopes to let listeners know of the many conversations that have been happening among the school districts in the county over the past five months.

“I’m an educator, and I want to use this time to help educate people on our current status condition in education here in Stanislaus County,” the superintendent said.

The town hall, scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Monday, should last about an hour, Kuykendall was told. Harder held a similar event last week with San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools James Mousalimas, and more than 6,000 people participated, according to a news release.

Constituents can call into Monday’s event at 888-886-6602.
