Distracted-driving campaign to visit Modesto Junior College

The California Office of Traffic Safety asks: Three-point shot or head-on collision – which will it be?

The OTS is making its way across select community college campuses throughout the state, one distracted student at a time. Students attempt to successfully complete a timed basketball shooting contest while holding a mobile device and responding to rapid-fire text messages. The campaign will stop Monday at Modesto Junior College’s east campus quad from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The inaugural college tour is being held as part of April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month and aims to educate young adults about the dangers of distracted driving. The drill simulates distracted driving in a safe and age-relevant way and showcases how difficult it can be to focus on a skilled activity (such as driving) while being distracted.

The MJC East Campus is at 435 College Ave.
