Scholarships available to music students

Applications are being accepted for the Anthony P. Forakis Scholarship awarded by the Forakis Family and Modesto 500 Lions Club Scholarship Committee.

The scholarships are awarded each year to qualified students submitting completed applications in a timely manner. This scholarship was started in memory of the son of Lions Paul and Karen Forakis. The number of scholarships and their amounts ($250 to $2,000) vary each year based on the qualified applications.

They are awarded based on the following criteria:

▪ City of Modesto high school senior (public, private, or charter school)

▪ City of Modesto high school graduate (public, private, or charter school) attending junior college or college

▪ Age 17 to 24

▪ Music major or minor

▪ Musical accomplishments and future goals

▪ Overall academic achievement

▪ Letters of recommendation

▪ Financial need

▪ Community service

▪ Quality of original essay on “Why I should receive a scholarship and how this will affect my personal and musical development.”
