Turlock High School sophomore Nicolas McKeon achieved national recognition in a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps air rifle competition last week.

The Navy JROTC cadet placed fourth in the nation among Navy competitors in the 2015 JROTC Three-Position Air Rifle National Championship, said Turlock High School Navy JROTC instructor Carlos Montanez.

Nicolas placed 12th among the 232 competitors from all service branches of the JROTC. The contest was held Thursday through Saturday at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio, at the Camp Perry Training Site.

Turlock High has an eight-person competitive team. Five advanced to the regional service championships in Arizona in February, placing sixth in the 20-state region, Montanez said.
