REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
The Central Valley Opportunity Center is accepting scholarship applications through April 3 for Stanislaus, Merced and Madera counties’ students. Six scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded in each county. Students need a GPA of 3.0 or more and must attend a postsecondary education institution this fall. Financial need will be considered. The Turlock Garden Club is giving out four $1,000 scholarships this spring to graduating seniors from Turlock, Denair, Hilmar or surrounding towns’ high schools. Applicants must have an agriculture-related major in line with the purpose of the club and be attending a two- or four-year college for the 2015-16 school year. The seven awards of $900 are for students who have turned their lives around by overcoming hardships. The Calaveras County Arts Council has a number of scholarships available for graduating seniors and other county residents wishing to enhance their artistic skills. Applications are due at the Arts Council, 22 N. Main St., San Andreas, by 5 p.m. March 31. Applications include a completed form, one-page essay and letters of recommendation. CALAVERAS SCIENCE FAIR RESULTS
The projects of two students from Mountain Oaks School in San Andreas will go on to the state competition from the 30th annual Calaveras County Science Fair: “Screen Size and Eyes,” by seventh-grader Trinity Walter, and “Creating an Accurate Temperature Sensor,” by sophomore Alex Woodside. Some 56 projects were entered in the fair. The California State Science Fair will be held in May at the California Science Center, Los Angeles.
