There’s no need to go over the rainbow to find Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion or – not that you’d want to cross her path – the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Johansen High School drama department this weekend will present its production of the musical “The Wizard of Oz,” known for such beloved songs as “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.”

The show features students of all ages and includes children from several local elementary schools.

Students have been working hard on the production since early December – teacher Rhonda Oliver said she’s looking forward to a full night’s sleep after the show’s run – and they can’t wait to present it to the community.

“The Wizard of Oz” has something to offer everyone, from 7 to 72. The cast of this classic tale will take you on a magical journey from Kansas to the Emerald City. Just remember to follow the Yellow Brick Road!

To reserve a seat, call Oliver at (209) 576-4702. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults.

Johansen High School is at 641 Norseman Drive.

Haley Smith is a senior at Johansen High School and a member of The Bee's Teens in the Newsroom program.
