Stolen car chase in Ceres ends with guns recovered, suspects arrested
A car chase through Ceres on Tuesday led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle, the seizure of two firearms and the arrest of a suspect, police said.
Around 2 a.m., Officer Charles Lord-Huff heard a be-on-the-lookout broadcast for a stolen green 1993 Honda Accord, according to the Ceres Police Department. Minutes later, the officer spotted the Honda traveling at high speed and tried to pull it over.
The driver refused to stop, prompting a brief pursuit through city streets. During the chase, officers saw the occupants toss two guns from the car, police said. The weapons were quickly recovered.
The pursuit ended when the Honda turned onto a dead-end street. The driver ran, jumping several fences to avoid capture, while a passenger stayed in the car and was taken into custody.
A containment perimeter was set with help from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Air Unit and patrol deputies. K-9 Onyx and a coordinated contact team conducted a yard-to-yard search, leading to the driver’s arrest without further incident, police said.
Investigators did not immediately release the names of the suspects or details about the stolen vehicle’s owner.
“The incident highlights the exceptional coordination, professionalism and dedication of our officers and allied agencies,” the department said in its statement.
