Man found sitting nude on Modesto bus bench faces drug charges

A Modesto man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday night after a driver on North Ninth Street reported seeing him nude on a bus bench, apparently smoking drugs.

The call came in about 9:30 p.m. Officers responding to the 900 block of North Ninth, near Coldwell Avenue, found the man completely nude on the bench, with his clothing nearby, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.

“They got him into custody, got him dressed,” she said. “He was smoking meth from a glass pipe.” The man, 26-year-old Richard Ignacio Salazar, was uncooperative with officers and gave no explanation for his nudity, Graves said.

He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation. Bail was set at $5,000.
