Ripon police credit residents in capture of suspects

Ripon police are crediting two residents in the arrest of two suspected mail thieves.

On Thursday at 2:48 p.m., dispatchers with the Ripon Police Department received a report of a possible mail theft on West Ripon Road witnessed by the two residents.

The two followed the suspects, who were in a 2007 gold Kia Rio, before patrol officers and detectives converged on the suspects’ vehicle and made a traffic stop, according to Sgt. Steve Merchant.

One of the people inside the vehicle was on searchable probation. Merchant said officers found stolen mail and controlled substance paraphernalia in the car.

Courtney Erin Gonzalez, 33, of Ripon, and Lorraine Elizabeth Rodriguez, 44, of Ripon, were taken into custody. They were booked into San Joaquin County Jail on charges of possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia and conspiracy.
