18-year-old in critical condition after being shot at Ceres party
An 18-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the neck and chest at a large party in Ceres early Sunday morning, according to the Police Department.
About 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Ceres police officers went to the 3200 block of Sixth Street for a report of a person shot. They arrived to find people running from the home and the teen bleeding from his wounds.
An estimated 200 people were at the party, which was advertised through social media, according to a news release Monday from Sgt. Jose Berber, the Ceres Police Department public information officer.
There was a confrontation between two groups in the backyard, Berber said. The investigation indicates there was an exchange of gun fire and multiple shots were fired by two parties.
The victim was struck once in the chest and once in the neck. It is not known if the victim was involved in the confrontation, Berber said. There are indications the confrontation was gang related, but the motive has not been confirmed, he said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact either Detective Bryan Ferreira at 209-538-5616 or the Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers’ tip line at 209-538-5740.
