Modesto and Keyes men killed, Turlock woman injured in murder-suicide
A Keyes man apparently killed himself after calling 911 to report he had shot his wife and killed a Modesto man Saturday evening north of Newman.
Mario Martinez of Keyes and Mario Medina of Modesto were found shot to death beside two parked cars near Kilburn and Villa Manucha roads, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
Maricela Martinez of Turlock also was found there with a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.
The Sheriff’s Department is calling the crime a murder-suicide, and it is working to determine the motive. The shootings occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Mario Martinez reportedly called authorities, admitted he had shot two people, and then hung up his phone. Sheriff’s investigators do not know why the trio was at that rural location, midway between Crows Landing and Newman.
