Modesto police: Stroller theft suspect had loaded gun in purse

A woman who fought with a loss prevention officer at a Modesto Target store on Tuesday night had a loaded gun in her purse, according to Modesto police.

Around 7 p.m., the 26-year-old woman tried to walk out of the Target on McHenry Avenue without paying for a stroller and a blanket, said police spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The suspect physically assaulted a loss prevention officer who confronted her, but the officer was able to detain her. Modesto police arrived and searched the woman and her purse, where they found a loaded firearm, Graves said.

Amanda Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of robbery and carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony.
