Modesto motorcyclist faces DUI charges after crashing

A Modesto man faces charges of driving under the influence after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a car on McHenry Avenue in north Modesto on Tuesday night, police say.

At about 9:15 p.m., Mark Claire, 58, was riding his motorcycle south on McHenry when he rear-ended a white sedan, said police Lt. Terry Seese. The collision occurred at Coralwood Road, in front of the Regal Cinemas.

Claire had to be transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, but officers were able to conduct a modified field sobriety test and determined he was DUI, Seese said.

Because he would be hospitalized, Claire was cited and released, the lieutenant said.

Information on the extent of his injuries and whether the sedan driver was hurt was unavailable Wednesday morning.
