Man arrested after Modesto taxi driver robbed, carjacked
Modesto police on Friday arrested a man suspected of being one of two who robbed and carjacked a taxi driver.
The incident occurred about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday at Prescott Road and Sharon Way, said Sgt. Steve Hinkley.
Two men called for a taxi. When it arrived, they got inside, pointed a gun at the driver and robbed him of his wallet, Hinkley said.
The driver got out and ran; one of the men fired several rounds, but the driver was not hit, Hinkley said.
Officers found the taxi abandoned nearby on Powell Drive.
Through evidence found in the taxi and other leads, detectives identified 23-year-old Marcus King as a suspect.
King was arrested Friday morning in Stanislaus Superior Court, where he was appearing in an unrelated case.
He was arrested on suspicion of robbery, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.
Hinkley said detectives have not recovered the gun nor identified the second robber.
