Livingston man convicted for drunken driving while on bail for other DUI charge
A 38-year-old Livingston man has been sentenced to four years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol in Stanislaus County while out on bail on a Merced County DUI charge.
On April 19, Javier Corea pleaded no contest to the latest DUI charge as part of a plea deal, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said a California Highway Patrol Officer pulled over Corea on suspicion of speeding on Jan. 14. Corea told the officer he had consumed alcohol and performed field sobriety tests.
Corea’s performance in the tests showed he was under the influence of alcohol, the prosecutors said. A subsequent blood test determined Corea’s blood alcohol content was 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit.
The defendant admitted in court last week that he was out on bail pending a felony DUI charge in Merced County when he was arrested in January. He also had a 2008 DUI conviction.
Deputy District Attorney Bianca Yip prosecuted the case. Her job is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
