Modesto man jailed in Ripon shoplifting case
A Modesto man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of shoplifting and providing false information to a police officer. Juan Antonio Contreras, 36, also was wanted by Modesto police on a DUI arrest warrant.
Employees of the Ripon CVS Pharmacy saw Contreras holding a small child while stuffing merchandise down his own pants, according to a news release from the Ripon Police Department. When he left the store without paying for the items, CVS employees immediately called police.
Officers arrived on scene within minutes and found makeup and female hair care products in Contreras’ pants, the news release said. He was taken into custody without incident about 3:40 p.m. and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
