Police: Three stabbed, one shot in west Modesto dispute

Three people were stabbed and another person was shot in west Modesto on Friday night in what police say began as a neighborhood dispute.

None of the victims’ wounds are considered life-threatening.

About 9:30 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of Snead Drive, just south of Middlecoff Avenue, on a report of multiple people with stab wounds. A few minutes later, there was an additional report of a shooting.

Modesto police Sgt. Manuel Corona said none of the people involved were being particularly forthcoming with information about what led to the dispute.

But early indications were that a man came from a home on Middlecoff to the house on Snead and began arguing with the occupants, possibly about erratic driving in the neighborhood, Corona said. He did not believe the man was an occupant of the home on Middlecoff.

Soon after, a fight broke out that left three people – two men and one woman – with stab wounds. The person who had come over from Middlecoff was shot in the leg. All of the injured were hospitalized with wounds that were judged not to be life-threatening.

Corona said police were unsure who did the stabbing or shooting and that nobody was doing much talking.

“We don’t know if it was self-defense,” Corona said. “I know the shooting victim went over there, but we don’t know if he was the instigator.

“Nobody is giving us information.”

The incident remains under investigation.
