Prison sentence for Keyes burglary

A 66-year-old Contra Costa County man has been sentenced to five years in prison for breaking into a Keyes business in July.

Prosecutors said Leroy Anton Just on July 8 broke the glass front door to the closed business. The business owner arrived to check on the alarm and could see Just inside the business.

The defendant was wearing blue socks on his hands to avoid leaving behind fingerprints, according to prosecutors. Just tried to leave, but the owner kept him in the building until authorities arrived.

On March 15, Just pleaded no contest to felony burglary, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office. Deputy District Attorney Jessica Bustos prosecuted the case.

The defendant had a previous robbery conviction. Superior Court Judge Thomas Zeff considered the circumstances of the July burglary, the defendant’s prior criminal history and a plea deal agreement before handing down the 5-year prison sentence.
