Man shot outside Modesto convenience store expected to survive

A 24-year-old man is expected to survive after being shot in the back with a shotgun outside the am/pm convenience store on West Orangeburg Avenue early Thursday morning.

Lt. Rigo De Alba of the Modesto Police Department said the man was standing in the parking lot of the am/pm at around 12:30 a.m. when a vehicle drove up and an occupant of the vehicle shot him.

The man suffered life-threatening wounds and was taken to the hospital, De Alba said.

There is no description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle, and there is not apparent motive for the shooting, De Alba said.
