Two people shot in Modesto expected to survive injuries

Two people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after they were shot in Modesto on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene near Maple and South Madison streets at about 7:30 p.m. after a report that at least one person was shot.

When they arrived, they discovered that two people were shot inside a vehicle from occupants in another car, according to Sgt. Felix Roman of the Modesto Police Department.

The victims left the vehicle but were found nearby and taken to a hospital.

The suspects fled the scene. No motive was established although it was early in the investigation.

Seconds after the victim’s were struck, their vehicle hit a car parked on South Madison at a low speed.

It appeared the parked car was occupied and one person from that car was taken by ambulance to a hospital, although that could not be immediately confirmed.

We’ll have more on this story as information becomes available.
