Modesto man arrested in string of west county robberies

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s STING team arrested a Modesto man in connection with a string of strong-arm robberies that occurred in west Stanislaus County over the past month.

The suspect stole money and belongings from the victims during at least three robberies that occurred Jan. 13 in the 300 Block of Gates Road, Jan. 25 Zeering and Jennings roads and Feb. 3 at Vivian and Service roads.

During the investigation, STING (Special Team Investigating Narcotics and Gangs) deputies learned that the suspect wore a black mask, was armed with a semi-auto handgun and drove a silver 2-door sedan.

Deputies identified Erik Fregozo-Gonzalez as the suspect in the robberies and arrested him Tuesday morning during a traffic stop in the 900 Block of Martin Luther King Drive in Modesto. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
