Two arrested in west Modesto shooting

Modesto Police Police on Tuesday night arrested a woman and a teenage boy on suspicion of robbing and shooting a man in the face last month.

The incident occurred Jan. 17 in a shopping center in the 400 block of Paradise Road. The suspects took property from the 23-year-old victim and shot him.

The victim managed to drive himself downtown to Ninth and I streets, where he flagged down a California Highway Patrol officer for help.

Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said detectives identified two suspects in the shooting, 21-year-old Vanessa Alvarez and a 17-year-old boy. She would not say how detectives identified the suspects.

Both were arrested during a traffic stop at Miller and El Vista avenues Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.

Graves said the victim is improving.
