CHP looking for hit-and-run driver; Modesto boy suffers major injuries

The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a Ford Mustang who hit a 15-year-old boy southwest of Modesto, then fled.

The boy, from Modesto, ran out in front of traffic at Hatch and Carpenter roads Friday evening, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Leon. He ran west from the east side of the road when north and southbound traffic had a green light.

The Mustang was traveling south when it hit the boy, throwing him 60 feet south of the intersection.

Leon said the driver stopped, then pulled forward and stopped again closer to the boy. He got out, rifled through his trunk, then got back into his car and drove away.

The boy suffered broken bones and head trauma but was conscious at the scene and is recovering, officials said.

The driver of the Mustang is described as a light-skinned Latino in his late 20s or early 30s. He has short black hair, light-colored eyes and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt.

The Mustang is described a bronze or brown; a 2005 to 2010 model year, with a partial license plate of “7BL4.” The car likely has front-end damage and possibly a broken windshield.

Anyone with information can call Officer Leon at 209-545-7440.
