Guard at Gallo Center in Modesto is assaulted early Sunday
A security guard was assaulted by two men early Sunday morning at the Gallo Center for the Arts in downtown, police said.
The guard’s shirt was cut during his struggle with the attackers, said Modesto police Lt. Rigo DeAlba.
Around 3:30 a.m., two males somehow entered the center and there was a confrontation with the guard on duty, he said. A struggle ensued and one of the intruders pulled a knife.
Police originally responded to a call of a burglary in progress, and the dispatch was soon changed to a physical altercation.
The two males, one wearing a black ski mask, left the building through an emergency exit and fled on 10th Street, DeAlba said. Officers were unable to find them.
No information was available on how the assailants gained entry to the center.
