Modestan arrested in Patterson on suspicion of attempted murder

Three men were arrested Thursday as Patterson Police Services deputies and detectives served warrants.

A Modesto resident, 20-year-old Eric Lane, was taken into custody about 8 p.m. on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of illegal drugs for sale and possession of a concealed firearm, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

Detectives identified Lane as a suspect in a drive-by shooting that occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Agadoni Court. The victim, an adult male, was shot multiple times and remains hospitalized, Bejaran said. The wounds were not life-threatening.

Thursday night, deputies saw Lane leaving a residence near Fifth Street and made a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle and was found with a loaded firearm and a controlled substance, Bejaran said. He remains in the Stanislaus County jail, with bail set at $500,000.

Earlier Thursday, detectives served a search warrant regarding a suspected marijuana grow in the 400 block of Roadrunner Drive. John Garcia, 25, of Patterson was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and child endangerment. The latter charge resulted from the fact that a 13-year-old living in the home had access to the marijuana and a firearm, Bejaran said.

Additionally, Patterson resident Roberto Ortiz, 61, was arrested on possession of a concealed firearm. Bejaran said a passing detective and sergeant observed Ortiz standing outside in the 100 block of First Street and could see that he was concealing a gun. The sergeant made contact with Ortiz, who turned over the weapon, which was loaded.
