Riverbank youth arrested in Modesto carjacking

A 17-year-old was arrested here Wednesday on a carjacking charge after his mother called Riverbank Police Services to report he had stolen property in his bedroom.

He also had ammunition in his bedroom, which was a violation of his probation. When deputies arrived at the home, shortly after 11:30 a.m., the minor was at home and they found the ammunition, a car stereo and miscellaneous power tools in his room.

Deputies conducted a probation search and also found prescription pill bottles belonging to someone else. Working with Modesto police, they learned the medicine belonged to person who was carjacked in Modesto on Monday.

The carjacking occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in a parking lot on the 3000 block of Floyd Avenue, Modesto police said.

Deputies contacted the victim, who identified his property and the 17-year-old male as the carjacker. Deputies began to search for the victim’s vehicle and found it on Lindbrook Drive a few streets away from the minor’s residence.

The 17-year-old was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carjacking. The stolen property and vehicle were returned to the owner.
