Ceres officer stops suspect from carjacking pregnant woman
Police arrested a woman suspected of trying to carjack a pregnant woman Wednesday.
An officer was dispatched to Sequoia Street west of Central Avenue for a report of a suspicious woman screaming and talking to herself at about 9:45 a.m., said Sgt. Patrick Crane.
When the woman saw the officer, she ran east toward a car stopped at a stop sign at Central.
Crane said the suspect tried opening the driver’s side door of the car, but it was locked, so she ran around to the passenger, where she was able to get in.
As she was reaching toward the driver, a woman six months pregnant, the officer got to the car and started pulling her out.
She kicked him several times before he got her in handcuffs, Crane said.
Cynthia Lee, 52, was arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking and resisting arrest.
The pregnant victim was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons due to the stress of the experience.
