A 25-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder, the result of a Dec. 10 shooting in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store on Mitchell Road in Ceres.

Vuthy Eang is being held in the Stanislaus County Jail on a $500,000 bail. He told investigators that the shooting, in which no one was injured, was related to a marijuana sale, Ceres police reported. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered in his home.

Officers responding to the report of the shooting spoke with witnesses to a disturbance involving two vehicles. As one of the vehicles was leaving, an occupant in the other, a silver Honda, fired three to five shots at it. Both vehicles were gone when officers arrived.

Several minutes later, the vehicle that was fired upon was involved in a traffic collision on Mitchell Road near Riverside Road. The female driver and male passenger were uninjured from the collision and the shooting, but several rounds struck the vehicle.

The investigation, which is ongoing, led to Eang’s arrest.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Bryan Ferreira at 209-538-5616.
