Husband, wife dead in apparent murder-suicide near Murphys

In an apparent murder-suicide near Murphys on Tuesday afternoon, a husband fatally shot his wife, called 911 and then killed himself, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The department received the call at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies and Angels Camp Police Department officers responded to an address near Murphys.

Two people were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds, the Sheriff’s Department reported. No other subjects are believed to be involved.

The Calaveras County Coroner’s Office identified the couple as 71-year-old Carl Rasmussen and his 63-year-old wife, Dot, who was terminally ill, the mymotherlode.com website reported.
