Modesto man federally indicted on gun charge
A federal grand jury has indicted a 34-year-old Modesto man charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento.
Federal prosecutors said Javier Haro on July 27 had a Glock 9 mm handgun, a Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun and 9 mm bullets. The indictment alleges that Haro has previous felony convictions.
If convicted on the gun charge, Haro faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
The indictment is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Modesto Police Department. The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which brings together federal, state and local law enforcement officials to combat gun and gang crime.
