$4,000 in stolen clothing recovered at Vintage Faire Mall
Three Fresno women are facing felony charges after an alleged shoplifting spree that ended in Modesto.
The women were caught at the Vintage Faire Mall after security alerted Modesto police they’d stolen designer jeans from Buckle on Sunday evening, said Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
Aliesha Arrington, 23, Andrea Newsome, 23 and Shanae Woodard, 22, were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, a misdemeanor. But the cost of their alleged crimes increased to a felony after detectives got a search warrant for their car.
Inside the car detectives found nearly $4,000 worth of clothing from other stores including Foot Locker, Victoria’s Secret, Champs and Footaction.
Merchandise from two other stores, H&M and Pink, totaled over $950, making the thefts a felony.
Detectives believe the merchandise came from multiple cities between Fresno and Stockton and was stolen over a period of several days, Graves said.
Before they could be rearrested on suspicion of the crimes tied to the items in the car, the women bailed out of jail on the shoplifting charges associated with the Buckle jeans. But on Tuesday, Arrington and Newsome went to the Modesto Police Department to get their car, which detectives had towed.
They were both arrested again for felony possession of stolen property and conspiracy.
Woodard, who didn’t go to the police station, is wanted on the same charges, as well as probation violation.
