Modesto police investigating armed robberies at Wells Fargo, Check ‘n Go

Modesto police are investigating two robberies that occurred within an hour of each other Friday.

The first was at the the Check ’n Go at 2100 Standiford Avenue. Two black men wearing dark clothing and masks entered the store at about 11:30 a.m., said Lt. Jason Grogan.

At least one of them had a gun and they ordered an employee to the lie on the ground. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and were last seen heading south on Prescott Road.

At 12:11 p.m. a robbery was reported at the Wells Fargo at 3456 McHenry Ave. A Latino man wearing a black peacoat, black shirt, black fedora hat and dress shoes handed a note to a teller.

The note demanded cash and indicated the suspect had a gun, although none was seen, Grogan said.

The suspect was last seen driving in a dark green, older van south on McHenry.
