Man fatally struck by car near Modesto’s airport neighborhood identified

A Modesto man who was struck by a car last week was identified as 20-year-old Dalton Shoup, the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

Shoup was walking in one of the southbound lanes of Mitchell Road on Nov. 15 when he struck from behind by a car north of Finch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at 10:45 p.m. and Shoup was wearing dark clothing. The driver of the car, Steve Gonzales, 20, stopped at the scene and cooperated with officers.

Shoup was taken to by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center, where he died the next day.
