Sonora Police: Suspect used red light atop vehicle to pull over woman
The Sonora Police Department is attempting to locate anyone who may have been pulled over, or witnessed someone being pulled over, by a man who put a red light on top of his car.
The man was driving a white, older, Isuzu Trooper with out-of-state plates when he used the light mounted on the roof and flashed his headlights to pull over a woman driving on Sanguinetti Road at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, said Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson.
A Good Samaritan who noticed the car had no official law enforcement markings pulled over to confront the suspect. Upon seeing the Good Samaritan, the suspect drove away.
The Good Samaritan called police, along with several other people who saw the suspicious car, Stinson said.
The victim left the scene before police arrived but officers found the suspect, and his car with the light still on top, about 10 minutes later at a gas station on Washington Street.
He was arrested for outstanding felony warrants out of Nevada for probation violation and drunk driving.
Stinson did not release the man’s name because detectives still want to talk to the victim who left the scene on Sanguinetti Road and any other potential victims and and witnesses.
If you were stopped by someone driving a white SUV with a light on top, or if you know of someone who was stopped, please call the Sonora Police Department at 209-532-8141.
