DUI checkpoints this weekend in Modesto

Police this weekend will look for drunken drivers starting Friday night with a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Modesto.

The enforcement effort will be followed up Saturday night with another sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Modesto.

At the checkpoints, officers also will look for drivers without valid licenses. Modesto police said those arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs face jail time, loss of their licenses and increased insurance rates.

The checkpoints are funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
