Victim in Modesto homicide identified
Police have identified the 21-year-old man fatally shot in Modesto on Tuesday night as Lamont Carvalho.
Officers responding to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of Rachelle Circle shortly after 9 p.m. arrived to find a neighbor giving CPR to Carvalho, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.
The victim, who was shot multiple times, was transported to a local hospital where he died from his wounds.
A second male victim suffered a minor wound to the head; he was treated at the hospital and released, Graves said.
Through their investigation, police determined that several suspects went into the court and opened fire on the victims. Information was not available early Wednesday afternoon on whether all the suspects were male, how many shots were fired or if there were others outside on Rachelle who escaped injury.
The motive of the shooting remains under investigation, but detectives believe it may have been gang-related.
Rachelle Circle is northeast of Maze Boulevard and North Emerald Avenue.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637. Type “TIP704” along with the message.
The homicide was Modesto’s 27th of this year, three more than the high set in 2012.
