Verdict reached in Crippen trial, to be announced Thursday
After a fifth day of deliberations in a trial for three defendants accused of murder in the stabbing of a teenager during what authorities believe was a botched robbery at a Modesto park, the jury reached a verdict, which will be announced Thursday.
The prosecution says Jacob Segura, Taylor Koplen and Juan Garcia confronted Tylor Crippen and his girlfriend before the defendants chased Crippen into Creekwood Park, where he was stabbed to death Jan. 29, 2013.
Along with the murder charge, the defendants face two counts of attempted robbery in the attack on Crippen and one count of robbery in a confrontation with Alex Salazar minutes earlier at the same park.
The jury of six women and six men reached a verdict in the afternoon, but court staff was not available to reconvene for an announcement, Crippen’s mother said. A prosecutor in the case confirmed that the jury will deliver its verdict Thursday when it convenes at 1:30 p.m.
