Modesto police release name of man shot by officer
The man shot by a Modesto police officer last month has since released from the hospital and was not arrested by detectives.
Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves on Wednesday identified the man shot as 35-year-old Jesse Montelongo.
She said detectives will forward a report to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed against him.
Officer Dave Wallace shot Montelongo on Oct.16 after his mother called 911 for help. The line abruptly disconnected and the dispatcher could not reach her after trying to call back.
Graves said Wallace and another officer could hear a woman screaming when they arrived at the home on Milo Road. The shooting occurred about 10 minutes later.
Detectives still are not saying what led up to the shooting or whether Montelongo had a weapon.
