Defendant in west Modesto robbery-homicide appears in court

A defendant on Wednesday appeared in court for the first time since he was arrested on suspicion of shooting to death a 29-year-old man last week in west Modesto.

Anthony Centeno Jr., 44, of Modesto, is accused of murder and robbery in connection with the shooting of Joseph Carl Levi Wyse.

Centeno’s arraignment was postponed until Nov. 25, when his hired Oakland-based attorney William Dubois can appear with him in court. The defendant remained in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail without bail.

The shooting was reported shortly before 1 a.m. Nov. 4. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 600 block of Marshall Avenue, where they found Wyse dead.
