One arrest, two others get away in north Modesto home burglary

Officers responding to a burglary in progress in north Modesto on Wednesday morning spotted three suspects as they came from the back yard of a home carrying stolen property.

Officers were dispatched to the home in the 1600 block of Kensington Park Drive, southeast of Pelandale Avenue and Carver Road at about 9:50 a.m.

When the suspects saw the officers, they dropped the property and ran east, jumping fences, said Modesto Police Lt. Kelly Scott.

Officers quickly apprehended one of the suspects – Marcus Pitts, 29, of Modesto – and recovered a handgun.

Police set up a perimeter of about seven blocks surrounding the home that was burglarized to search for the two other suspects.

They searched for four hours, going house to house, but were not able to locate them.

Pitts was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on charges of burglary, conspiracy and obsstruction.
