Victim in fatal north Modesto shooting identified
The woman killed in a shooting Sunday afternoon in north Modesto has been identified, police reported Tuesday.
Jennifer Navarette, 39, was the passenger in a car driven by her son, Daniel Navarette, 19, on Pembroke Drive near West Rumble Road when both were shot multiple times, police spokeswoman Heather Graves said.
Jennifer Navarette died at the scene, and her son is in stable condition at a local hospital. The shooter, who was on a bicycle, is described as a Latino or black male in his 20s. The shooting occurred about 4 p.m.
The motive is not known at this point, Graves said, but detectives are following up on several leads.
