Ceres police asks for public’s help to nab suspected bank robber

Ceres police is asking the public’s help to identify an alleged bank robber who made off with an undisclosed amount of cash at Westamerica Bank on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the bank at 1788 Mitchell Road after employees told officers a man handed a teller a note threatening that he had a bomb. The teller handed the man money and the suspect walked out and south toward Fowler Road, according to Detective Sgt. Danny Vierra.

The suspect is described as Latino, in his late 20s and about 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 180 pounds, Vierra said. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a large puffy black jacket and a back pack when he entered the bank, witnesses said.

Ceres police, which released photos of the suspect on its Facebook page, also received a tip that the suspect was seen at a bank in Turlock earlier that morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Carlos Quiroz at 209-538-5638.
