Deputies arrest man suspected in string of Patterson area thefts
Authorities believe they have solved a string of commercial robberies on Stanislaus County’s west side with the arrest of a 37-year-old man.
According to a news release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, detectives from Patterson found Daniel Lee McDaniel in the 1200 block of Jewel Flower Drive at 7:45 a.m. The sheriff’s department provides law enforcement services to the city under contract.
After conducting a traffic stop on McDaniel’s vehicle, detectives served search warrants on his vehicle and at his home in the 500 block of D Street. During the searches, authorities found evidence “linking McDaniel to the robberies,” the news release said.
Investigators believe McDaniel is responsible for a string of robberies in the area that started with a holdup at a Papa Murphy’s Take ’n’ Bake Pizza on June 7. He also is suspected of robbing a McDonald’s restaurant on June 11, a CVS pharmacy on July 14, a Metro PCS store on July 25, an Auto Zone on Aug. 19 and a Subway restaurant in Westley on Oct. 18.
According to the release, McDaniel previously had been convicted of armed robbery and had been incarcerated at Folsom State Prison since 2002 before being paroled to Patterson on Aug. 15, 2013.
“Patterson detectives have been working day and night to bring closure to this case and we could not be more proud of their work,” Chief Tori Hughes said in the news release. Hughes also thanked the citizens of Patterson for their help. “With their help, we were able to identify and apprehend McDaniel and remove him from the community he has terrorized over the last five months.”
Investigators ask anyone with further information on the case to call Detective Michael Andriese at Patterson Police Services, (209) 892-5071, Option 4.
