Preliminary hearing rescheduled in fatal Turlock shooting

A judge has rescheduled a preliminary hearing to start Feb. 17 for a defendant charged with murder in a Turlock shooting about two years ago.

Ernesto Negrete, 22, of Turlock is accused of shooting to death of a 35-year-old David Hernandez in front of his grandmother’s home.

Negrete also is charged with attempted murder, participating in a criminal street gang and drug possession in connection with the Dec. 30, 2012 fatal shooting on South Avenue in Turlock.

At the conclusion of the preliminary hearing, the judge will determine whether there is enough evidence for the defendant to stand trial.

Negrete remains in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail.
