Arrest made in deadly August home invasion in Modesto
A Turlock man suspected in an August home-invasion robbery in Modesto that left a man dead was arrested in Calexico and has been booked into the Stanislaus County jail, the Modesto Police Department reported Friday.
Carlos Flores, 19, was arrested by agents as he entered the United States from Mexico. Flores was extradited to Modesto and booked Thursday on charges of murder and robbery and multiple warrants. A second suspect in the case has not yet been identified.
Jose Roberto Sepulveda, 31, was shot inside his house on Pine Tree Lane the night of Aug. 2 when two assailants forced a woman and three children inside the home before opening fire.
Police spokeswoman Heather Graves said at the time that the two suspects and Sepulveda, who already was in the house, got into a struggle before multiple shots were fired, with at least one striking the victim.
Sepulveda was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured. The suspects fled the residence on foot and were described as Latino men in their 20s.
Detectives continue their investigation, Graves said in a news release Friday, but believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that the suspects and victim may have known each other. A motive and details of what may have been taken during the robbery are still under investigation.
